To an aspie child.

Dear Child,

you see the world with different eyes than mine. Your start into life with rough, the first few years you didn’t speak, and your difficulties with social interactions make life harder for you. Sometimes you’re more than a bit clumsy, and our conversations tend to be a little bit one-sided… you tend to be obsessed by always the same subjects over again. Sometimes it looks like you’re simply absent, inattentive, or just don’t care. Though I know that, in your own unique way, you care.

But, you know what? It is ok, and you are more than ok.

You are a wonderful, beautiful butterfly – of infinity beauty and worth. You are a specialist in your own chosen fields of research and interest, and when it comes to certain activities and skills, you are a true artist, and you don’t cease to amaze me with the beauty you create. But your worth does not come from what you do: it comes simply by the fact that you exist; you are loved.

I am learning to see the world with your eyes, instead of forcing mine on yours, and I see the efforts you make and have made in the past, the progress and the achievements. You dance to the beat of a different drum, and that is not a bad thing, especially in this crazy world, and I pray that I may learn to hear and dance even better with you. You have your own unique strengths, and I want to be there for you to help you develop them. Being different is not something negative, even if some people want you to believe that.

It has not always been easy, and we may sometimes bump heads again, but know that I love you unconditionally, just the way you are. You don’t need to be cured, you need to be accepted, and at times, you need some help (don’t we all?).

I hope I’ll be what it takes, with God’s help.
Mom.

Get some Refreshment

IMG_20170612_081855_873

I went hiking last weekend. It was fairly hot, so any shade and refreshment was welcome. There was a tiny path going off the main path, going up steep to the side of the rock. Maybe a bit tricky and tiring, but definitely worth it. After a short climb, I found a little spot of pure beauty with a natural sun-heated shower – just what you need on that warm and sunny day.

That made think that sometimes it is well worth it to stray off our ingrained habits and thought-patterns and explore new ideas – and suddenly, we’ll discover an oasis, new ideas, new realizations, motivations, or simply come to rest. In Faith similarly, it is good to be courageous and explore new paths. God, in his grace and love is infinitely bigger than all we can imagine and dream of, so it will do me well to sometimes change my routines and be surprised by him. Let your soul be refreshed and renewed. May this be our prayer!

Bzzzzz!

I love small things. I love watching the bees and bumblebees and others being all busy in the flowers and plants, grass and trees and… from far away, there only seem to be plants and trees. But if you look closer, there is so much happening: a small world within a world, another miracle of daily life.

Fresh & New

Even though it is the warm season, some mornings have still been exceptionally cold. But instead of being frustrated about it (who wouldn’t want some warm sunshine now?), I try to look at the beauty of it. It is what it is and I can’t change it, so why be angry about it? Rather, look for reasons to be grateful and in wonder, still.

Your own way.

Life is not always easy, that is true. Sometimes it can be complicated. But I am convinced that one day, we will all find our own unique way, our own path. Don’t just follow down the road that everybody has followed – be courageous, follow your heart and your dreams. You might discover something wonderful – YOURSELF.
